Portfolio

Although I’m most recognized through my work with Melee Stats (typically through the weekly Monday Morning Marth series), I am currently studying sports analytics at Brandeis; ergo, I mostly write about the NFL/football now. While this page doesn’t include every single article I’ve ever written or project I’ve completed, consider it a rough summary of my most important work.

Skills typically used in projects: Database management, predictive modeling, Machine Learning, EDA (Exploratory Data Analysis), Python, R, SQL, etc.

Forecasting NFL Quarterback Performance and Contract Value with Neural Networks (December 2025)

Final project for my football analytics class — built a neural network to forecast QB performance and analyzed whether franchise QBs are worth their contracts.

Wins Above Replacement For NFL Quarterbacks (November 2025)

Part of a multi-week in-progress research project where I try my hand at making Wins Above Replacement for NFL players. Other editions overview WAR for skill position players, offensive linemen, and defensive players.

What is the Value of a Top 5 Draft Pick Offensive Tackle? (September 2025)

I dive into the numbers behind top five draft pick offensive tackles, their first games, seasons, and first four years to build out best/worse case scenarios for Will Campbell.

Calculating The Annual Cost of Retail Recalls (August 2025)

An abridged, layman-friendly version of a research paper I submitted as my internship-long contribution to a retail consulting company.

Using Basketball Reference to practice relational database building & querying in SQL (April 2025)

A slightly modified, though still extremely dry breakdown of the torture I endured through building a relational NBA database.

Is Film Becoming Too Reliant on Franchises? (March 2025)

An abridged version of a series of group reports I and three other Brandeis students produced on film analytics.

A Beginner’s Attempt at an NFL Draft Value Chart (January 2025)

I looked through the history of the NFL draft to examine the expected “approximate value” of each spot in the draft.

I built a simulator for the entirety of SSBM supermajor, Tipped Off 15, simulating it 1000 times. You can see the recap here: I was pretty happy with its predictive success.

Hbox, Liquid, and a 10 year journey to the top of Smash (April 2024)

Freelance piece for Team Liquid, which celebrated Hungrybox’s 10 years in official TL history.

Melee’s Terrible Stages (October 2023)

Wrote, directed, and produced (though unfortunately not voiced) a video about the history of Melee’s tournament stage list. Pretty miserable process of working on this video; proud of how it came out though.

What Made Summit Special? (April 2023)

I analyzed the shutdown of Beyond the Summit – one of the most successful esports production studios of the 2010s for Monster.

The 6 Phases of Mango & Hungrybox (August 2022)

I wrote a guest column for Team Liquid about Hungrybox’s rivalry with Mango, the greatest rivalry in Melee history.

Team Liquid – Another Genesis (April 2022)

I wrote a guest column for Team Liquid about Hungrybox’s chances of winning Genesis 8, detailing his win probability against his projected opponents.

Melee Stats Top 100 (November 2021)

I was the project director of the Melee Stats All-Time Top 100 Rankings list, writing and editing blurbs for this piece, as well as partnering with PGStats for the video releases. It won the 2021 Best Melee Content Award (my totally unbiased perspective: it may as well be an Oscar).

The Book of Melee (August 2019)

My first print book is a 243-page recap of competitive Melee history. Pretty cool to see it cited by both The Ringer and by another esports book in “This is Esports.”

SSBMRank/MPGR (December 2016 – January 2024)

I wrote, edited, collected data, and voted for the SSBMRank series, an annual countdown article series recapping the Top 100 players of each year from 2016 to 2019.

Smash History (July 2016 – May 2019)

I wrote several independent articles about Melee history to over 1,000,000 total readers, which is pretty wild in hindsight for something I started for fun. Highlights include The Top 100 Sets of All-Time, The Greatest Cinderella Runs, Top Tier History, and RetroSSBMRank.
