Portfolio

This page represents a good chunk of the type of work I’ve pursued across my academic and professional career. It also reflects how I like to use data science for my hobbies.

Skills typically used in projects: Machine learning, database management, predictive modeling, EDA, Python, R, SQL, etc.

Brandeis Projects (2025 – 2026)

This section overviews all the projects I’ve done while pursuing my Business Analytics masters degree at Brandeis University. Not all of these projects are directly connected to Brandeis; they just utilize the skills I developed in that program.

Spring 2026

Edges in March Madness Betting – Beating Vegas With Machine Learning

Simulated $100 bets with XGBoost, Random Forest and Neural Networks models to find edges in betting against Vegas money lines in the collegiate basketball playoffs. Finalist Candidate for the 2026 Brandeis Datathon.

Winter 2025

Forecasting NFL Quarterback Performance and Contract Value with Neural Networks

Final project for my football analytics class — built a neural network to forecast QB performance and analyzed whether franchise QBs are worth their contracts.

Wins Above Replacement in the NFL

A multi-week in-progress research project where I try my hand at making Wins Above Replacement for NFL players. Other editions overview WAR for skill position players, offensive linemen, and defensive players.

Fall 2025

What is the Value of a Top 5 Draft Pick Offensive Tackle?

I dive into the numbers behind top five draft pick offensive tackles, their first games, seasons, and first four years to build out best/worse case scenarios for Will Campbell.

Summer 2025

Calculating The Annual Cost of Retail Recalls

An abridged, layman-friendly version of a research paper I submitted as my internship-long contribution to a retail consulting company.

Spring 2025

Using Basketball Reference to practice relational database building & querying in SQL

A slightly modified, though still extremely dry breakdown of the torture I endured through building a relational NBA database.

Is Film Becoming Too Reliant on Franchises?

An abridged version of a series of group reports I and three other Brandeis students produced on film analytics.

A Beginner’s Attempt at an NFL Draft Value Chart

I looked through the history of the NFL draft to examine the expected “approximate value” of each spot in the draft.

Melee Stats Work (2021 – 2024)

Before going to Brandeis, I ran a company that led multimedia coverage surrounding Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament results. I worked on these projects as the full-time editor-in-chief of Melee Stats; though it’s not completely comprehensive, you can consider this a highlights reel of my most notable projects with Melee Stats and even just separately within the Melee community.

I built a double-bracket simulator for the entirety of SSBM supermajor, Tipped Off 15, simulating it 1000 times. You can see the recap here: I was pretty happy with its accuracy.

Hbox, Liquid, and a 10 year journey to the top of Smash (April 2024)

Freelance piece for Team Liquid, which celebrated Hungrybox’s 10 years in official TL history.

Melee’s Terrible Stages (October 2023)

Wrote, directed, and produced (though unfortunately not voiced) a video about the history of Melee’s tournament stage list. Pretty miserable process of working on this video; proud of how it came out though.

Waiting for Game Podcast (2021 – 2023)

One of two bi-weekly Melee show hosts for two years covering the most prominent news in the Melee scene.

SSBMRank/MPGR (2021 – January 2024)

I wrote, edited, collected data, and voted for the SSBMRank series, an annual countdown article series recapping the Top 100 players of each year.

Melee Stats Top 100 (November 2021)

I was the project director of the Melee Stats All-Time Top 100 Rankings list, writing and editing blurbs for this piece, as well as partnering with PGStats for the video releases. It won the 2021 Best Melee Content Award (my totally unbiased perspective: it may as well be an Oscar).

Personal Projects (Pre-2020)

The Book of Melee

My first print book : a 243-page recap of competitive Melee history from its release to 2019.

Smash History

I wrote several independent articles about Melee history to over 1,000,000 total readers, which is pretty wild in hindsight for something I started for fun. Highlights include The Top 100 Sets of All-Time, The Greatest Cinderella Runs, Top Tier History, and RetroSSBMRank.
